Business Manager
Janie Flores
Business Manager
As a university student earning her bachelor of science degree, in 2002, Janie began working at Woolf Dental sterilizing dental instruments. She later worked in dental assisting, collections, and billing before becoming our receptionist. And after earning her bachelor’s degree, Janie became our business manager.
As a child, Janie was afraid of her dentist. But while working for Dr. Woolf, Janie decided to remain in dentistry to make an impact and help patients feel comfortable—not fearful—at the dentist and maintain good oral health. It is satisfying for her to see patients who formerly smiled without showing their teeth become confident about smiling after dental treatment. Janie refers to our Woolf Dental team as her “second family.” Her coworkers and our patients motivate her to come to work each day.
During leisure time, Janie enjoys going to concerts with her husband and daughter.
Registered Dental Hygienists
Angela Oberg
Registered Dental Hygienist
A proud Bakersfield native, Angela enjoys the city’s weather, environment for social growth, and family friendliness. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene from the University of Southern California and has worked in the dental industry since 1996.
Angela says she loves dentistry because “the first thing people see is your smile. You don’t get a get second chance to make a first impression. I am happy to have a part in keeping smiles healthy and beautiful.” She says it is gratifying to see a patient’s response after removing stains and impurities in their teeth. And her personal relationships with patients and co-workers motivate her.
Angela and her husband have three children. In her leisure time, she enjoys outdoor activities and reading.
Amber Lucas
Registered Dental Hygienist
Born in Ohio and raised in Norwalk, CT, Amber attended Fones School of Dental Hygiene, University of Bridgeport. She began her career in dentistry in 1998 as an orthodontic assistant and later became a hygienist. Amber enjoys working with patients—who become like family—and educating them about their oral health.
Amber is married and has two teenage children. She enjoys cooking, walking, exercising, and participating in her ministry work.
Germaine Jacobs
Registered Dental Hygienist
Germaine’s childhood dentist, Dr. White, attended USC and sparked her interest in dentistry. Germaine attended UCLA and USC and began working in the dental field in 1980. She enjoys working in dentistry, seeing patients’ oral health improve, and making their smiles look and feel wonderful.
Germaine has two children, Nick and Grace. In her free leisure time, Germaine enjoys cooking, spinning, and gravity yoga.
Registered Dental Assistants
Tamara Powers
Registered Dental Assistant
When Tamara was five years old, she and her family moved to Colorado, but she returned to Bakersfield in her early 20s. She attended San Joaquin Valley College and earned a dental assisting certificate.
As a dental assistant since 1982, Tamara loves helping patients understand their dental treatment, getting them through their fears of the dentist, and seeing them happy and smiling at the end of their treatment. Working with a team that loves and cares about their work motivates her to come to work each day.
Tamara is married and has five children, seven grandchildren—”the pride and joy” of her life, and two spoiled Yorkies. She enjoys working around the house and spending time with family.
Sulma Herrera
Registered Dental Assistant
Sulma was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, and raised in Bakersfield since age 4. In 2007, Sulma chose a dentistry career because she loves the feeling of improving people’s smiles. Working as a dental assistant remains interesting to Sulma because it allows her to help dentists with various procedures. And our Woolf Dental team keeps her motivated to come to work each day.
Away from work, Sulma enjoys spending time with her two sons and daughter.
Liz Bussell
Registered Dental Assistant
When she was a teenager, Liz and her family moved from Anchorage, AK, to Bakersfield. She attended San Joaquin Valley College and earned a dental assisting certificate. She has been a dental assistant since 1986. Liz earned two more degrees—an associate of arts in liberal studies from Bakersfield College and recently, a bachelor of arts in English from California State University Bakersfield.
At Woolf Dental, Liz says she enjoys working with a team of professionals who have a unique rapport with one another and are deeply committed to quality patient care.
Liz is married and has two daughters—one attends a university and the other, a community college. In her free time, she likes trailer camping, hiking, rollerblading, walking, and volleyball. Liz and her husband enjoy cross-cultural teaching and spent six years, along with their girls, serving an International Christian School in Nairobi, Kenya. Their family dog—a Rat Terrier—is named Kenya.
Lina Torres
Registered Dental Assistant
Lina grew up on farmland south of Arvin. She attended San Joaquin Valley College, and in 1995 she began working in the dental industry. Lina says she enjoys dentistry because a great smile changes how patients view themselves and how others view them.
In her free time, Lina loves spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren.
